VICTORVILLE • A motorist who fell asleep at the wheel crashed into a utility pole Monday morning, knocking out power to hundreds of customers, officials said.
The crash happened just before 8 a.m. near Mojave Drive and Amargosa Road, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials.
Power was cut to hundreds of homes and businesses from Mojave Drive to Hook Boulevard and from El Evado Road to Interstate 15, sheriff’s officials said.
Southern California Edison workers restored power to most homes within about an hour.
Investigators learned Vizcarra was driving south on Amargosa Road in a friend’s car on his way to the Victorville Courthouse to meet another friend when he fell asleep.

San Jacinto police arrest man accused of impersonating an officer, carjacking

San Jacinto police have arrested a man accused of posing as a police officer and trying to carjack a woman earlier this month.
Officers tracked Jeremy Nievas Phillips, 32, of Nuevo, to a motel in the 2600 block of Florida Avenue in Hemet, Sgt. Stephen Mike said. Phillips was wanted on several warrants, including vehicle theft, carjacking and robbery.
Phillips matched the description of a man who on March 1 walked up to a woman in her car near Seventh and Hewitt Streets. The man was not in uniform or with a badge, but said that he needed to commandeer her car and that other officers were on the way, Mike said.

Four people were injured this afternoon, one seriously, when a sport utility vehicle plunged off a freeway overpass onto a small coupe.
The collision was reported at 3:47 p.m., said Tom Rubio, a spokesman for the San Bernardino Fire Department. When fire crews arrived they found that a late-model Dodge SUV traveling south on Highway 330 drove off an overpass onto a late-model Honda coupe on eastbound Highway 210.
