Heavier rain to follow latest spritzing in O.C.

The first of two Pacific low pressure systems moved through Orange County yesterday and early today, barely spritzing the landscape, and not even doing that in many areas. The National Weather Service had said the county would be lucky to get one-tenth of an inch of rain. But forecasters also say the second system will be far stronger when it gets here late Friday night.

Fake job-reference sites spring up

Fake job reference services are appearing, mostly online, to help the 8.4 million Americans who have lost their jobs in this recession.

The longer people are out of work, the more they might look to such sites to help them find a job. And 35% of California’s unemployed have been out of work for six months or more.

These job-reference sites offer to help fill gaps in work history, provide references from out-of-business former employers, give positive references when the job seeker believes the real former boss would be negative.

They provide real phone numbers with real people who answer the phone and give job verification information to employers who are checking references.

Alibi HQ, a job reference site that got a lot of attention in 2009, seems to be gone.
