San Jacinto police arrest man accused of impersonating an officer, carjacking

San Jacinto police have arrested a man accused of posing as a police officer and trying to carjack a woman earlier this month.

Officers tracked Jeremy Nievas Phillips, 32, of Nuevo, to a motel in the 2600 block of Florida Avenue in Hemet, Sgt. Stephen Mike said. Phillips was wanted on several warrants, including vehicle theft, carjacking and robbery.

Phillips matched the description of a man who on March 1 walked up to a woman in her car near Seventh and Hewitt Streets. The man was not in uniform or with a badge, but said that he needed to commandeer her car and that other officers were on the way, Mike said.
